  • Dating sites are businesses, not humanitarian efforts. None of them are out there to better mankind.

So, the ones that are free are making money off of advertisers that advertise on their site and they are bringing in more people because they are free, and advertisers like big audiences and will pay for that.

The ones that are not free can still be making some money from advertisements but they also make money from their customers.

I personally preferred sites that charged something because it weeded out people that were not serious about dating. Some people will use free sites just to check out the scene, while still being in a relationship. One person I knew used it for a social experiment to see whether girls or guys got more responses. Also, many people will use it to troll for casual sex.

What Girls Said 3

  • 1. Why do some dating sites charge and others are free? Some make money via ads and some prefer to charge to make money via subscriptions

    2. Do some people just care about helping others, while some want maximum profit? Both are helping people out if your view of helping people out is to give them a place to find dates. Both are likely wanting maximum profit just going about it in different ways.

What Guys Said 2

  • "Helping others" is probably not one of the top priorities of dating sites. Even the "free" ones make money through advertising. The more traffic a site has, the higher advertisers will pay to place ads on the site.
