Pokémon Go: Tips, Tricks, and Knowledge!

How to get pickachu as your starter!

In my news feed I came across this one a couple of days ago. Which I know a lot of you die hard pickachu fans will be dying to give this a try. When you start the game for the first time, you get a choice to pick 3 different Pokémon, all you have to do is walk away from them. If you walk far enough away, the starters re-spawn and reappear next to you. When you do this about 3-4 times or more, they’ll eventually come back with a Pikachu.

Tap to make them roar!

I know they don't actually roar but you know what I mean. When you click on the Pokéball at the bottom of the screen and then to check out the Pokémon you have caught so far. Click on a specific one, then tap it, that should get them to make their sound.

Do a Curve ball!

To pull off this awesome trick off you will need to click on the Pokéball you will use to catch the Pokémon you're trying to catch, tap it and hold, then spin it around in a circle (several times) before flicking it toward the Pokémon. Once you do that you will be racking up XP bonus points!

Confuse a Pokémon while catching

To do this you will need a raspberry (er, "Razz Berry"). You can earn those from going to a Pokéstops or you can just buy them with in-game money. When you give it to the stubborn Pokémon you're trying to catch it will work for your next throw to make it easier in catching.

Want to throw better?

I'm sure a lot of you by now have noticed if you throw a certain way it will say nice and great throw. Doing those will give you a bonus XP when catching. Always pay attention to the rings around the Pokémon you're after and notice what color rings it has. When you see the green/yellow ring around it try to aim for it, if you hit it that will help you get that extra XP. When you face difficult Pokémon the rings will be orange and red to show that their harder to catch. (Use a razz berry when you see that)

Needing to save battery life?

Just flip it upside down! No seriously you just flip it upside down but yeah that's not all you have to do. First set your phone screen to never turn off and slide it into your pocket upside down. If you already have your game set to "battery saver" mode, your cell phone will register it as been flipped over. Causing it to automatically dim it's screen and saving your battery!

Tracking Pokémon!

Some of you might be confused when you see a Pokémon that has 3 footprints or less. I know when I first started out I didn't understand what that stood for. When 3 footprints show up that means it's the furthest out in your area, 2 footprints is the 2nd furthest but closer to you, 1 means it's close by and you don't have to walk around much, no footprints means it will jump out the second you click on that.

Evolve before powering

This should be the number rule for everything, NEVER power-up a Pokémon that can still evolve. Doing so will just waste anything you had used to power them up before. The Pokémon become more powerful from evolving anyways.

What is CP?

I'm sure a lot of you by now are completely clueless about what CP could stand for. (My boyfriend had his own guess but I won't say it here so it doesn't offend anyone though it was kind of funny.) CP stands for Combat Power, this is a stat we haven't seen in any Pokémon game. The CP of a Pokémon is essentially it’s singular stat that indicates its power. So now instead of having to worry about the level of your attack power, defense power, and more, Pokémon Go skips all of that and just gives you one to focus on.

What the heck are those leaves?!

If you see something flying out of the map that look like leaves. HEAD TOWARDS THEM! That's actually a sneaky Pokémon trying to hide from you!

Transfer your Pokémon!

If you have multiple Pokémon of the same kind, transfer the ones with the lowest CP. When you do this you end up getting extra candy from professor willow. I did that right now and it's made me closer to evolving another Pokémon!

Yes, catch the same Pokémon!

Catching the same one over and over helps it to evolve in the end. With each Pokémon you catch they also come with 3 candies with them. So when you catch the same one multiple of times those candies merge together on that particular Pokémon. Aim to catch the same ones over and over so you can evolve the best one you find!

Use lucky egg and incense at the same time!

Lucky eggs help you to earn more exp for 30 minutes while incense help you to attract more Pokémon when walking around for 30 minutes. Having them on at the same time will help you to level up faster! Catching a new Pokémon gives 500xp and already found gives 100xp.

Raining pink stuff at a Pokéstop

When you see this, that means someone activated a Pokéstop module. Having that on makes it so more Pokémon are being attracted to that stop, which lets other players get in on that action.

Gyms!

In Pokémon go you have 3 different teams you can join once you're level 5, (Valor, Instinct, or Mystic). Those are tie to which ever gym you take over. When you see a greyed out gym on your "Pokémon GO" map, that gym isn't claimed and that can be yours for the taking if you so choose to do it.

Head out to friendly gyms

Why face Pokémon that you know you can't beat? Instead of wasting time doing that try going to a gym your team already knows and practice there. Train up any Pokémon you have with low CP and help rank them up and compete in friendly battles. Each time you battle at your teams gym, y'all will get "Prestige" from your battle. Which that's how gyms rank higher over time. By raising the rank of your teams gym, that will make it harder for anyone to attack it.

Time to battle!

The commands that is needed to battle are tap, swipe, and long press. Fast Attack (tap): Tap your Pokémon to perform a fast attack. Fast attacks charge your special attack meter. Dodge attacks (swipe): Swipe left or right to dodge attacks.Special Attack (long press): Once your Special Attack meter is charged, long-press your Pokémon to perform a special attack. Special Attacks cause large amounts of damage. That's all you need to know about how to fight so far.
