Do you guys know any good movies I could do a report on?

I need a movie that i can do a report on for English class but i dont know any good ones. It needs to have emotion and a good clear message and themes that people can relate to. Any suggestions for movies i can watch then do that on would be great because im honestly just stuck right now

  • Good clear message films tend to be a bit simplistic, don't you think? In American cinema some of the better suggestions might be
    - inherit the wind - about creationism vs evolution
    - to kill a mocking bird - basic human decency vs racism
    - in the heat of the night - justice vs prejudice
    - 12 angry men - don't take things at face value
Rest of the world, my fav would be Ran, directed by Akira Kurosawa. Japanese take on king lear. Complex, but bleak! also by kurosawa, 7 Samurai, on which the magnificent 7 is based, and more morally complex.
Britain the original Alfie, with Michael Caine.
    Lawrence of Arabia.
Italy two women with sophia loren.
    - The Stranger, based on the existential novel by albert camus.
France belle du jour with Catherine Deneuve. Mature content
    Hope this helps.

  • I think Disney films are great bc they always have a great storyline and themes which almost everyone can relate to.

I was going to mention some other ones which probably are too political.

Maybe The 5th Wave as it has some human themes and good characters with depth you can write on.

  • Quite literally every film has emotion and a message.

    • yeah i get that most things have a message but some of them are totally useless and i can't relate or write much about it so there's no way to get a good grade

  • Try Fight Club, it deals heavily with mental health and with people feeling like they need to escape their normal lives, great film

  • 500 days of summer. Very deep and relevant. Another is One Day. Two very deeply touching movies about love.

    • Show All
    • It's one of my two favorite movies.

Did you think it was biased? (on first impression, it seems as if she was the one at fault)
I never got the views of a women about this, that's why I'm asking.

    • @mikemx55 No, I think she did the right thing to leave rather than lying to him. She did not love him therefore why deceive him into thinking she could love him. I think no one was at fault but rather pushing the point that love can't be forced...

  • What is the assignment exactly? Is it a literary-type analysis you're supposed to be writing? For that kind of paper I'd pick a classic like Citizen Kane or Sunset Boulevard, both of which are very entertaining and watchable. There's a lot of "there" there. :) Another that comes to mind is Interiors by Woody Allen, if your taste is a bit more mature.

    Good luck. :)
