The Fastest Way To Find Peace During The Holidays!

So, Christmas is right around the corner. Less than a week, in fact! That means gifts beneath the tree, turkey on the table, and (my favorite), pumkin pie! It also means stress for many families. Why? Well, for starters, extended family members arrive, old wounds are ripped open by a snide remark, fights break out, and the season of peace becomes the season dread!

But, does it really have to be this way?

It's a question I've pondered for several years now. Last year, in fact, we had one of those "seasons of dread," so I'm not writing this Take as if I've figured it all out. In fact, I haven't. But lately, I've been asking myself some big questions regarding this fleeting thing we call peace.

Where does the peace of Christmas really come from?

Why do we end up fighting with people we really genuinely love? (for the most part!)

Is there something more I can be doing to foster more peace?

That last question is the ticket. In fact, let me get to the point of this Take with this one single statement:

The amount of peace I experience during the Holidays depends on the amount of peace I choose!

You see, peace doesn't magically land in our lap because we want it to, or wish it to, or heck, even pray it to! Peace arrives when we make the active choice to live by peace. Peace depends on us.

Not others. Not your Uncle Ned who just won't stop picking on you. Not your grandma who complains about everything.

You!

If you're twisting and convulsing in yours seat right now, I believe I've struck a nerve. You can blame who you want to blame but it comes down to this- The amount of peace you experience, depends on the amount of peace you choose!

One of my heros, Andy Stanley, has this great quote- "Your direction, not your intention, determines your destination!"

Translation- if you want to end up at a different destination this Christmas, than you did last year (one with more peace) you have to choose that path!

It's that simple!
