I'm not sure. I've been there myself. I'm kinda there now, actually. I have been sort of a homebody, and most of my old circle are thrown out of my life for being terrible friends (and people in general) and my good friends are now gradually moving away. Which leaves me with a lot of time on my hands. One thing I've done do counter that is basically just talking to people when I *am* out, and trying to connect later. Another thing I've done, is I've gone onto dating sites looking for likeminded people and talking to them on the internet, making friends. It seems to be working so far. I'm not close yet, but maybe in time I will be. Maybe he can try that.

I don't think you can do much, I don't because I don't like a lot of the people in this sh*tty town lol, at work I know a lot of people though so.
If he doesn't have friends you can't do anything, if it was that big of a deal to him I'm sure he would find some social enviroment to meet people.

You can start by giving him some anti-depressants. Then you can stop being emo together, postpone the wrist-slitting you two were planning on doing, and join a sex cult! Or better yet, start smokin' weed. Weed makes everything better! It even helps with making friends. Pot smokers LOVE to make friends! It's even been shown to help with back pain! :D
Go make friends together. Find a new hobby or join some meet up groups.
I'll be his friend if he invites me in the bedroom for some three way action.
Does he have any nonphysical hobbies?
