Hey! first off we need to first understand how you got those leg muscles. Simply put, to build muscle you need to eat a lot of food (an excess amount of calories). You do lots of physical activity which involves your legs like you said, so doing that breaks down the muscle tissue, and then it gets repaired; if you're eating more food than your body needs it uses that to repair the muscle bigger and stronger (very simple overview of how muscle is built).
Now that we know how muscle is made we can use that as a reference to how were going to lose it and avoid doing the opposite. So basically to lose muscle in your legs you need your muscle to go "catabolic" which is where your body breaks down muscle tissue. We'll start with diet. You'll need to watch how many calories you're consuming because eating more than you need will slow or prevent your body from breaking down your muscle. Make sure you're still eating enough food, but don't eat a lot of extra calories.
Next is your physical activity. The easiest way to lose muscle in your legs is to simply not use them. But that's ridiculous, and like you said you play sports, so the best you can do is just reduce the amount of activity on your legs each day. Take breaks when playing sports, and don't go to the point where it feels like your legs are going to fall off (that's what stimulates muscle growth).
As for genetics, yes this could play a role in it, keep in mind just because your siblings or parents don't have big legs doesn't mean you can't. If it is genetics then it may be harder because your body will favor this muscle over others, but don't worry, you can still lose it. So in conclusion, watch how much food you're eating, and reduce the amount of physical activity involving your legs, or just reduce the intensity. Definately genetics. Genetics means, you got genetic codes favoring it, this does NOT mean you're a copy of your mother or your sister ! Genetics is about combination, not about cloning ...

If you're currently in sports/athletics, you'll have to wait it out until you can stop being athletic. Then, you'll need to stop working out for a while and begin working out once you notice that you've become soft and out of shape.
But you'll need to do things like yoga, dance classes/dvds, swimming, cycling or light jogging as well as pilates
I used to have man legs!
Running more than took care of that ! Long distance running.

i love athletic looking legs, gives me a chub just thinking about it, not manly at all. rock those legs
Idk about other guys but I love girls with muscular legs. I saw a cute brunette walking in front of me today and her legs were so thick and sexy all I could think about was having her legs wrapped around me or doing her doggystyle!
The best way would be to do cardio a lot. Run a lot and eat vegetables, and avoid fatty foods.
Don't exercise your legs and... lose weight
