My Top 10 Favorite Oscar Dresses and Suits for 2017

The Oscars for 2017 have come and gone, but the fashion is forever. This year, I wasn't as impressed with the selection as previous years, but there were quite a few standouts for the men and women in my book. Here are my top ten best dressed looks of the night.

10. Justin Timberlake in Tom Ford

I've already admitted or will admit to my obsession with Tom Ford, and none other than JT rocked it down the red carpet. You just can't go wrong in my book in a Tom Ford suit or tux.

9. Olivia Culpo in Marchesa

A lovely dress, and a good cause together came together in this dress. According to the host, “[The dress is] in partnership with Stella Artois and Water.org. Stella Artois created chalices and for one chalice sold, five years of clean drinking water is provided for someone in the developing world. [The] dress is actually made out of the chalice pieces, and it’s encouraging people to get involved in the water crisis and buy the chalice.” Great cause, but beyond that I love this silver against her dark hair and eyes with that extra touch of black in the clutch, rings, and bow about the waist. She also mentioned the dress was supposed to remind you of water cascading, and I agree. Beautiful.

8. Nicole Kidman in Armani Privé

You have to be a bit weary about wearing nude colors that are too nude, and this is right on the cusp, but I think all the beading detail saved this from looking like skin. Love the pop of red lipstick and just hte simple jewelry.

7. Taraji P. Henson in custom Alberta Ferretti

I can no longer see a leg in a black dress and not think of Angelina Jolie and that whole dress thing, but this is Henson's own take on a classic LBD. It's about the dress and maybe, just maybe, those million dollar jewels. Hair is beautiful, as is the make-up, and just a simple classic heel.

6. Felicity Jones in Christian Dior Couture

In 2011, Hailee Steinfeld wore something very similar to this, but the little girl in me likes this very much because I've always loved the look of romantic tulle and tutus, so this can do no wrong in my eye. Lucky her, she didn't have to spend the entire night tripping or being tripped up on a big old gown, but this was still formal and beautiful enough to carry the night. Barely there jewelry, and everyday hair, it works.

5. Kirsten Dunst in Dior Haute Couture

It's DIOR honey! Make room! The original original OG LBD makers. Looking at this, Dior has never lost that edge. Just a classic LBD in a high low cut. No one ever sees your shoes, but in this you can, but the dress still remains elegant. I love the messy hair, and the dark eye that make her blue eyes pop.

4. Ryan Gosling in Gucci

I loved this because not only is the tux just well tailored and a classic, I like that the ruffled shirt underneath is a bit tongue and cheek. This definitely got him noticed, but not in a way where you felt like, oh God, here's a guy in a yellow tux screaming for desperate attention. It's just subtle and fun. I mean after a while, every tux starts to blend in for the guys, and it's nice to see a bit of a vintage look mixed in with the modern.

3. David Oyelowo in Dolce & Gabbanna

This ladies and gents, is how you wear a tux or more accurately a D&G suit. This is tailored to perfection. I really appreciate that it's not just a white tux or a black tux, but the combination that works great against his skin tone. I also love the tassels on the shoe. Gives it a bit of something extra.

2. Hailee Steinfeld in Ralph & Russo

I was waiting for my gasp jaw drop moment, and this was it. I love the juxtaposition of these soft pastels in such a light as air floaty gown cut with this dark make-up and sharp hair. It's an interesting and beautiful study in contrasts that for me, totally works. I also like the cut out details along the side and the bits of gold on the fabric. Really stunning.

1. Viola Davis in custom Armani Privé

This was definitely my number one choice for the night because as much as I love a big fussy complicated gown with tons of detail work, beyond that, I adore someone who can wear a simple uncomplicated gown and just stun of their own reconnaissance. There are no tricks, no gimmicks, just a beautiful woman in a stunning red off the shoulder gown.
