Why don't all fat people have stretch marks?

I'm 30 pounds overweight and have stretch marks all over my stomach, sides, and parts of my lower back. Then I see people way fatter than mean, 70, 80 pounds overweight on these weightloss shows. They take off their shirt and don't have a single stretch mark. How is this possible?

  • Stretch marks depends on your skin type and a lot of genetics, a lot of pregnant women wonder the same thing, why a woman having twins has no stretch marks but ones who is smaller has them all over, and it depends on the elasticity of your skin.. some people get them some don't I know my mom never has had a stretch mark on her body.. hopefully when I have a baby I will be the same but there's no guarantee I know I am talking mostly about pregnancy but it all goes hand in hand :) good luck!

  • lol ...I always ask myself the same question. Usually when I go grocery shopping with my mum , I tend to see "overly" fat ladies who have no stretch marks ..yet am slim but I do have them .

  • What Enchanted said, plus people who gain weight slowly are less likely to get stretch marks than those who gain weight fast.

I also think maybe the people on TV have special effects or something because it seems "grotesque" to show vivid stretch marks on TV... Dumb, but that's the way things are.

  • Some people just have really elastic skin. Stretchmarks can be on fat and skinny people alike. I have stretch marks. :/
