As a kid I remember having a reversible one with black and brown sides and was told to match side showing so as to be the same color as shoes. In elementary school didn't pay any attention to classmates' shoes, but in high school copied everyone else and insisted on tennis shoes as daily footwear. They didn't match belt, but I just had on blue jeans most days anyway so stopped wearing it altogether.
Some people think guys must always have a belt on and seem bewildered if they notice it is missing, but doubt they realize how effeminate white ones look if paired up with tennis shoes on feet, or even care about matching clothing for that matter.
I'd never wear a white belt at all. I don't wear belts as a fashion statement, I wear them to hold up my pants. But if I ever did wear a white belt, it wouldn't occur to me whether or not it matched my shoes. You really won't generally see guys who pay attention to that sort of thing.
I prefer black shoes, but sometimes I wear white shoes. But they're so dang hard to keep white, and they don't look as good if there not pearly white. But I never wear a belt, so I don't think I would wear a white belt anyways xD
