How to flirt or make a connection in the gym?

So, Im single and I think that I'm finally ready to start dating again (after a three+ year hiatus). I dont go to bars or clubs because its just not my scene, I have very few friends due to my prevous work history, zero social media but, I DO work out on a regular basis. Which leads me to my next point...

I've seen a few women at the gym who I find myself attracted to (i. e; healthy, attractive, live a similar lifestyle, and not overweight) and I would really like to get to know one or more. At the same time, because I DO workout regularly I understand and respect the gym rat mentality of not wanting to be bothered at the gym during a workout. So, this is my dilemma...

-How do you approach someone (a woman) with sincerity in the gym?
-Lol, I really don't want to follow them. to their car as this would just be weird and
-I don't want to be the douchebag who ruins their respective workout...

Ladies (who frequent the gym with the intent of accomplishing something) if it had to be done, in what manner and under what conditions would you like to be approached at the gym? Ideally, how should the approach be handled?

One last thing, Im pretty sure someone will suggest this so, I figured i would go ahead and answer the question/suggestion before it even comes out. I dont want to I don't do online dating for a few reasons:
1) Most people don't take it seriously
B) a lot of women either will either tell an outright lie about their true physical description
3) Its just not intimate enough for me and its very hard to get a read on people via the internet
