How often should a girl initiate conversations with a guy?

This guy & like each other. Recently he has gotten a job & it's kinda tough.. He hasn't been initiating much lately (texting-wise) & I don't know if it's because of his job or what exactly, but he does initiate sometimes. I really like him so I started initiating a bit more (whenever I knew he was available or had some time), but I don't want to overdo it or I'll look desperate/clingy. So far I've initiated the last two times we spoke (obviously I've initiated more, but I mean now), I'm waiting for him to initiate or at least miss me enough to say hi even if he's as busy as a bee, what should I do (wait or initiate)?

Guys, how often should a girl you like initiate convos with you? And how much is considered okay & not clingy?

Wait for him to text you or if you are going to text him make sure it's a question or statement not just hey because it will make the conversation more intresting
