A guy who hits a girl, might not hit her again, but I would be very careful with trusting that guy if I were the girl. Guys who can't control themselves and hit a girl "by accident", are really not a safe bet for anyone to be around. Truth is, a guy is supposed to be able to control himself. Sure, a guy can get angry, but that doesn't mean her has to starting hitting people!
If you're in a relationship with someone who's hit you, I'd seriously contemplate leaving that guy, because violence is totally unacceptable! There are women's shelters that help those who've been physically abused. If you're in a need of help, don't be afraid to ask for it. Also, know that it's NEVER the victim's fault that they're abused! Nobody has any right to hit another person!

If someone murders someone, does it mean that person will murder again? No. But why take the chance? If you're with someone that's abusing you, physically or psychologically, it's time to end it. Don't be afraid to ask for help and support from your family and friends. That's what they are there for. Don't allow yourself to be a victim.
If a stranger beat you on the street, wouldn't you call for help and try to have the person arrested? Assuming your is yes, then why would you allow someone who cares about you and/or loves you do that to you?
Put a stop to it now.
It doesn't matter how heated things get a guy should never hit you. It doesn't matter if you told him he was the scum of the earth and you wish he was dead a guy should NEVER hit you (not that you should say anything like that either but sometimes things just come out). I'm willing to bet that most men that hit their wives appologize right after and then hit them again a few weeks later. It's very rare that it's a one time thing. A guy hitting you should always be a deal breaker no matter how sorry he acts later. A real man will get up and walk away from you and your craziness untli both of you have had time to calm down, he won't hit you.
If your partner hits you once and you are submissive about it then they will try to constantly dominate the situation thinking that since you didn't do anything about it the first time they have the upper hand and something to dangle over your head to force you into obeying them.

Of course he is acting like a scared puppy. He has a lot to lose, including you and his freedom. You can dump him, and you can have him arrested for domestic violence.
He's acting like scared puppy, because he doesn't want to go to jail or for you to leave him.
