Is there a difference between putting your arms around a guy's waist and putting them around his neck?

I mean would you hug a guy you're friends with differently than a guy you're dating?


Personally, I'm short, so I hug just about everyone around the waist. Could that send a guy the wrong message?

I have a male friend that we could have something more and when we hug he hugs me around the waist. But, he will not let me hug him around the neck because he says that when we hug this way my breast rub against his chest and I am more in line with his body and it makes him think improper things. (smile)

He will always hug me around my waist or from the side unless he is being frisky then he will let me grab him around the neck.

Just think about it, if you are taller and you hug a guy around the neck, your breast are brushing up against him, you are looking in his eyes and you are touching that very sensitive area around the hairline on the back of his neck.

I think hands around the waist is a pretty natural hugging position for girls. On average we're all shorter, so that's just kind of where our hands end up going. If I saw a girl hug my boyfriend with her hands around his neck I would wonder if she was trying for a kiss

haha yeah I guess, that's what I was told when I was in 7th grade that's why I laugh . but I don't think there really is a difference. I guess its more of a sexual appeal if the guy is able to grab you by the waist.

Instead of making up a new question regarding a similar situation I thought I'd ask here.if you don't mind anonymous user? :-) I hug one of my best f/friends and in the process of doing so we'll both hug like normal then squeeze each other tighter than the "normal" goodbye hug. Its the best way I can explain it. Can there be something more behind this kind of hug than just a good bye hug?

To answer your question, I see no difference in hugs. I just want the girl to be comfortable with however she prefers to hug.

I think you hug someone like that when you really care about them. That's how I hug my friends. And to be honest with you, I have a 6-year-old niece who always hugs my mom that way, but not me (she's not my biggest fan lol). It doesn't necessarily have to be a romantic thing.

Depends on your height, if your shorter around his neck, same height you go over, he goes under. But around the waist is also fine, if you feel more comfortable that way.

Around the waist is more friendly or come off as flirty. Around the neck is slighty more meaningful. More boyfriend/girlfriend-y, or for "long-lost lovers" or some sh** like that.

I have to hug my boyfriend around the waist, but I'm trying to figure out if I should hug him around the neck. but see he's 6"2, and I'm 5'3. so I really don't know
