Yah it would be really akward.
Unless you were trying to save her, and had to hold her hand. Or you wanted to dance with her, and held her hand.
Other than that, if you just randomly take her hand, it would feel really weird.
Even if she really liked you, doin that on a first date, would be like, *whoa*. It might make her nervous.
I would wait till the end of the date, like at her door, or somewhere. You can take her hand and say you had a really great time, and kiss her on the cheek, lips, neck -- wherever ;p
Personally I don't think it's too strong. But maybe do it like half way through the date. Like if you two are walking back to your car (assuming ur driving) you can casually grab her hand. But if she pulls away let her, don't keep a death grip on her hand, cause then she may freak out. If you want to hold her hand though, just go for it.

personally, I love holding hands. If I didn't really know the guy yet, I would find it a bit weird and awkward at first. But if we were getting on great and I really liked him, I think holding my hand would be the sweetest thing. it would make me feel good cos I think it shows that he really likes me.

Aw no, I don't know about other girls but I love having my hand held! It's oddly sweet. Holding her hand on the first date isn't too strong at all. :)
Just wait to see how the date goes, if you feel like she's not avoiding you, making short comments or anything like that don't do it cause it would be very awkward for both of you.
