sounds like you're in the same exact situation I'm in. I'd say it's not gender exclusive.
Make it clear you don't like it when they send mixed signals (thats what I should have done)
"for a week or so". This doesn't sound like a good guy who wants you. Or maybe you haven't given him enough signs so he gives up
Not all guys behave like that, some if not most of them are into these games, but still there are plenty of ''good guys'' out there that won't confuse you.

It doesn't even sound like your with him, if he disapears for weeks. Just give it up, real men are not confusing, and know what they want out of a relationship.
He probably thought you weren't interested and he distanced himself.
