Are there different types of hugs?

I was just wondering if there are different types of hugs that mean different things? For instance, If a guy is taller than me I like to hug his waist tightly and put my head on his chest(if it's a guy I'm comfortable w/), but does than mean something different to a guy than just a hug? or If a guy is shorter than me and I'm just giving him what I consider a 'friendly' hug I put one arm around his shoulder, but I'm just wondering what different hugs mean to guys cause I don't wanna give the wrong impression.

There are definitely different kinds of hugs.

here's the one-armed playful hug I get a lot from my brothers and guy friends- affectionate but in a completely platonic way. Your chest tends to be facing into their side.

There's the comforting hug I get from friends or family with both their arms around me when I'm upset about something- chests touching, but it's usually a squeeze and your head doesn't tend to rest on their chest.

There's the romantic hug where you hug and your whole body is aligned with his, touching or almost touching, often you rest your head on his chest.

Then there is the awkward bums-out hug with strangers. You know how sometimes you get roped into hugging someone you SO don't want to hug but feel obligated to out of politeness? So you hug them with limp arms and your butt stuck out so you barely touch them...Those are fun to watch lol.

There are platonic hugs and romantic hugs. A platonic hug is brief and there isn't a lot of closeness and tight squeezing. A good example of a romantic hug would be your "head on his chest" hug. That is not something you would usually do with someone who is just your friend. So if you don't want to send the guy the message you are into him just keep it brief and simple and stay away from the pelvic region with your hands and your waist.

What if I wanna show interest? Then I would do the 'head on chest hug'?

Sure, if he's tall enough, but shorter guys like romantic hugs too! lol. Eye contact during a hug is another thing that sends a strong signal. Also, any kind of motion with your hands (rubbing, caressing etc.) will be pretty easy for him to interpret.

Ok, thanks! He's definitely tall enough. He's like at least 6'2 and I'm 5'5-5'6 and he always tries to bend down and makes the hug awkward/difficult. So next time I think I'll definitely try and hug him like that. lol

Before you lay your head on his chest look up into his eyes. You never see two people lock eyes during a friendly hug. He'll get the message.

i would say some are different. some hugs are very brief, some maybe a bit longer and tighter. brief hugs are harmless
