Why do some people have pronounced jawlines, and are they attractive?

I'm 18, male, and mine is visible not really "strong", or anything like that. Is it mostly genetics that decide whether you get a pronounced jawline, or is it other factors? I've heard testoterone plays a role, and that kinda saddens me, because when I was in my teens I was a little fat, got bad nutrition and no exercise... could that be why my j-line is a bit weak now? Lol.

Also, girls, do you find them attractive? And how big a deal are they?

As per your question is concerned, a strong jawline is attractive feature which also plays important role in attraction but there are still guys with no jawline who are getting girls, why? Because the quality which they have in their personality might be missing in strong jawline person...what I mean to say that everyone has their different features gifted by god so try to see them...

Yeah well jaw lines are up to genetics which also influence your testosterone levels among other factors. As for their attractiveness, it's pretty personal to everyone, I mean some women like a strong jaw line, because that's usually considered manly and others like less pronounced jaw lines, because they might a little more femine looking men. In the past a strong jaw line was something to be proud of, but nowadays the jaw line question is more of neutral ground. And of course there are women like britannny who don't swing one way or the other.

It's mostly to do with genetics - that determines overall bone structure. Do I find them attractive? Meh. A strong jawline is not something I look for, certainly not a requirement at all.

I was blessed with my father's facial features and that included his strong jawline, unfortunately. If you look at me straight on you will see that my face is square like a man's, almost. I'm learning to accept it though.

It's still hard to say. On an unconscious primal level, square jaws are preferable because they tend to indicate (to the woman) higher testosterone levels and good genes, which tells her he's a good candidate for reproduction (i.e. healthier, stronger babies. Survival of the fittest).

But people don't really let those thoughts consume them though when they are looking for a partner, anymore.

Guys with high testosterone tend to have deeper voices, broader shoulders, stronger jaw lines, bigger d***s, high sex drive, they are taller, larger bone mass, larger muscle mass, etc. Testosterone has a lot of effects that masculinize the human body. I would say it's not just the jaw line that the girls find attractive, it's the entire package. A guy that has a strong jawline might also have other testosterone enhanced features that makes him more appealing to women.
