  • I love it. In particular I like Chicken Tikka Masala (even the origin of the dish is disputed):

    Also like Tandoori chicken:

    And Lassi:

I like all the spices and the use of yogurt and spices like garam masala, cumin, ginger, cinnamon.

    • Also can cook a near restaurant-quality butter chicken.

    • Got into it living on my own for a while and working from home while probably watching too much Hell's Kitchen and Master Chef. Indian food's appeal to me is the super aggressive seasoning. It's easier to kind of taste all those exotic spices when you start to know all the ingredients involved.

    • omg I miss indian buffet so much now

  • I love it! I enjoy cooking it (apart from the smell that lingers in your home afterwards) and love eating it!

My favourites are lime pickle, chamlai, madras, peshwari naan, pakoras. Passanda is good too but is hard to find.

Butter Chicken is a joke - it strikes me as a dish designed to appease Westerners who can't handle any spice at all.

    • What is the more authentic and home-made Indian food like compared to what's popular in, say, American restaurants?

    • Show All
    • Thanks -- I should try it! I ask because I noticed a huge difference between what's considered "Japanese food" in American restaurants vs. the authentic thing (with the exception of sushi), and same with Chinese food (even more of a huge difference) between what I ate in mainland China and Hong Kong.

I never got to go to India and try authentic, so my impression of "Indian food" is shaped entirely by the restaurants.

    • @ak666 I've actually only been once, but my family eats indian food for dinners. The restaurant food, I honestly hate. Your best option is finding a friend whose parents still cook in the traditional way. Nice to hear open minded people!
