Tomboys are still Feminine!

Somebody told me recently that tomboy was used by most people to describe a girl as being butch, But it has never meant that to me.

To me, it's just a gal who defines what it means to be a woman by her own standards. So some of the coolest women have met were tomboys in their own ways, But always still very sexy and feminine in their own unique ways!

Some of the characteristics of tomboys are...

- Very laid back and not as girly and over emotional as some. But still has feelings even if they keep them inside like a guy, Sometimes.

- Loves hats and tennis shoes and would wear their favorite sneakers to even the fanciest dinner if they could.

- They have bros, And they won't quit those bros even for a boyfriend. Hell, Even their boyfriend is their bro.

- Loves doing guy things, And they love competing with guys. Really can get sore if they lose, But more pissed if they think you let them win.

- Can booze it up and cuss with the best of them.

- Can be very sarcastic, And never afraid to call a guy out for acting like a bitch.

- Doesn't play emotional games that often, But can have self-esteem problems.

- Can have a lead foot, Loves fast cars and going fast in them.

- Can know more about sports, video games, comic books, And guy movies than you do.

- Can either wear very little makeup or a hell of a lot, There is no in-between :P

- Some REALLY love their tattoos, piercings, And crazy hair colors!

And many, many more. Because every woman is an individual.

So Tomboys are all woman, And then some <3 I like the other types too, And yeah I know they can have some of the same characteristics.

Anyway, That's my definition of tomboy.

The first time I ever heard the term Tomboy was watching this movie.

I agree, and I share a good portion of those characteristics!
I consider myself very laid back, and I'm not as girly or over-emotional as some. I do have feelings though, and I do tend to bottle them up at times.
I don't love hats because they give me headaches, but I do LOVE my favorite pair of tennis shoes. I wear them whenever I can, and I absolutely refuse to wear fancy dress shoes because they aren't worth the pain. I might get a nice pair of flats for a really special occasion, but I will usually just wear some dressy flip flops if the occasion calls for it (I wore them to prom, haha!)
I definitely have bros that I wouldn't give up for anything, and my boyfriend is one of them!
My personality really fits in with my guy friends', and I can take a joke (it seems like some girls really can't).
I can definitely cuss up a storm and often do, but I don't drink too much. I don't have anything against it, but I just don't like to drink more than a small amount.
I can be sarcastic and am not afraid to call out a guy for being a bitch!
I don't play emotional games but really do have some self-esteem issues.
I actually don't really like going too fast in cars because I am extremely cautious when it comes to driving! I drive an average Joe car too, but love it.
Sorry, I know absolutely nothing about sports, video games, etc. I am willing to learn though.
I am often told I wear too much eyeliner, but I like the look.
I have a phobia of needles so no piercings or tattoos for me! I kind of want to try wild hair colors someday though.

I'd say "feminine" and "masculine" are just social constructs. Lots of tomboyish girls are hot, being a tomboy doesn't mean they are "ugly"... some people are mistaking them for "butchy girls", or "androgynous girls" - but that's not the same.
Tomboys don't "look like men", they just act more assertive and energetic
Not all tomboys have short hair, quite the opposite... most of them have a ponytail... and finally, they don't wear "men's clothes", they actually wear unisex clothes.
Basically, I like them, especially sporty, casual and military type of tomboys ;)

Yea, I'm not a tomboy. but the gender norm makes it so any one who doesn't dress according to gender is automatically identifies as the opposite sex or gay. I have many female friends who shop in the boys section but are straight and have no desire to transition. I have male friends who wear makeup, some female clothes and look feminine but aren't gay nor have a desire to transition.

I Love tomboys, in fact I married one, my wife is rather tomboyish, but she can still wear makeup and is sexy as hell. I really like how tomboys will go out and get what they want (especially if what they want is me.) ;-)

Just because a girl is a Tom boy does not mean she does not like feminine things or things that girls do, we are still girls. I'm a tomboy, and I still like to be romanced, I like perfume, I like to shower, I like to get my nails done, I like shopping. I like getting my nails done, I like to dress up, I still wear makeup

Nice take though a lot of that can go for anyone still.

Though the shoes and hat thing. Hate both and rather go barefoot. Sadly I can't be barefoot 24/7 so I just wear sandals 24/7 basically. Even if it's a fancy place. :D

Ellen Page is kind of what I think of as a Tomboy. Flat chested small and skinny with a pretty face, like I knew she was gay years before she came out by the way she looked, walked, talked and dressed plus she was a feminist but I was still devastated when she came out. She is number 1 on my celebs I want to pork list.

I consider myself to be a tomboy, but I don't fit any of the traits U listed. I just like getting dirty and doing lots of physical stuff. But I love dressing in girly ways, and wearing makeup too.

Big difference between a tomboy and a butch. One I like, the other is disgusting. One has male characteristics but is still a women, the other is screwed up wannabe male. One reflects positive characteristics of males. The other embraces tries to imitate negative characteristics of men in a deluded attempt to appear more masculine.

I agree with you. The term "Tomboy" refers to "A woman/girl that has masculine traits, qualities". When they go shopping they will buy men's clothes, they perfer a man's conversation over what a girly girl would talk about. They often care less what people think of them. I have met some tomboys that go as far as farting loudly in public. What you have said is the very meaning of the word "tomboy".

Tomboys are masculine females. Less masculine then males, sure, but less feminine then typical women.
