10 Things To Do For Prom

1. Order Everything Early!

10 Things To Do For Prom

Now, might seem like it's really early to talk prom things, but Prom for most US high schoolers is only about 3ish months away. If you have plans to order a dress online, TRUST ME when I say order early, and right about now is the longest you should have waited. Ordering online can be very tricky. You may get the wrong dress, wrong size, wrong color, delivery could take forever, you name it. If you wait until the last second that leaves you no room for a plan B or to head to a store and get a dress without being flustered or probably having to spend way more than you or your parents wanted on top of the dress you already bought. With that, get your limo all set up if you're using one, order or have ordered your corsage and boutonniere. Make sure you know when you need to pay for your prom tickets. Set-up your hair appointment, nail, and make-up at least 1-2 months ahead.

2. Practice

If you are a noob to wearing make-up, doing your own fancy hair, dancing, etc., now is the time to practice or let someone you want to do those things with or for you, practice on you. You do not want to wait until the night of, and try to figure them out. Also at least a few days before Prom, wear your heels around the house for a few hours here and there to break them in.

3. Ask him out

I know right, crazy! The closer it gets to prom, the slimmer the pickings get if you aren't already dating someone. If you are dead set on going to prom WITH someone, don't be afraid to ask the guy out. Make it as simple as just asking him in a text or through social media, or go all out with a Promposal. Up to you, but waiting around to the last second and hoping you'll get asked, might not happen on its own. And wouldn't you rather already know now that you have someone lined up then wait and see?

4. Organize

The night before, organize everything. Hang your dress, put all your hair and make-up stuff in one spot. Make sure you have back up stuff or that you have enough hair make-up stuff or go buy a fresh set to ensure you do. Confirm with the limo driver and anyone coming to do hair/makeup stuff, etc.

5. Pre-Prom Party

Organize a pre-prom party or just have all your friends meet in one location and get ready together especially if you'll later all be riding to Prom together. This is also a great way to cut costs a bit if you can divy up the price of hair/make-up or get discounts as a group.

6. Group Photo Session

You don't need to hire an actual photographer, but you might want to get all the parents together or just your friends together and have them take some group and single photos of everyone. These are some of the most memorable shots because you tend to have better lighting earlier in the day and everyone is looking so fresh and clean having just done up their hair make-up and clothes. This is a nice memory for parents too, to see you and all your friends, many of whom they've known since you guys were little, look so grown up. Often times actual official Prom pictures take a while to get to you and they can look so stiff and lame. With friends or family, you can take FREE fun photos the way you guys want to.

7. Eat!

Prom can be a long ordeal and Prom food isn't always getting what you paid for, so before prom make sure you guys eat something even if it is just a quick run to McDonald's. If you don't have time, pack your tiny clutch with a few to go snacks just to keep your blood sugar running on point.

8. The after party

Prom is good, sure, sure, but after parties can be way better. No school rules, no who can and can't come, and you can have it anywhere until however long you want. It's a great way to help continue on the good vibes.

9. Eat Again

Set up a gab session for brunch the next day or sleepover with all your girlfriends where you can gossip about how the night went. Trade photos, laugh about the dancing, talk about how your dress did or didn't hold up, and who got the magic kiss on Prom night.

10. Thank-yous

Be sure and recognize and thank all the people whose hard work, efforts, donations, and/or money allowed you to enjoy Prom. Prom can be super expensive for some people and family often pitches in to foot the bill. At the very least, really give a heart felt thank you to parents especially for helping you. As you go off for college soon or move on, these moments are some of the last where you'll be in their care so let them know you appreciate every last second. Also share your pictures and experiences with family and friends who helped or couldn't go or want to know how it all turned out.

10 Things To Do For Prom

With everything related to Prom, make sure you work within your budget. A lot of these things can be super fun, but are not absolutely necessary in order for you to have a great time. Hanging out with your friends, and dancing, can be more memorable than any pre-party or expensive dress.
