Driven Women: Why Women With Ambitions Are Sexy

Watching the new The Mummy trailer, Sofia Boutella's Ahmanet, a resurrected Pharaoh princess who was mummified and locked away because of her desire for power, embodied a rare characteristic that I found intoxicatingly sensual: drive. Granted, Sofia is a beautiful woman, and that certainly adds to the sensual nature of her character, but it's this sense that she weilds unimaginable power and has a purpose-driven mindset that elevates her far beyond just her physical presence.

From what I gather, she is awoken by Tom Cruise's character's actions, freeing her from whatever was holding her, and for some reason, she needs his character to live, going so far as to return him from the dead. There's an implied desire for romance between her and him, and to be honest, given the choice, I'd have gone with that in a heartbeat.

Going beyond supernatural powers though, it's not a woman's power that is sexy: anyone can have power that manifests in any number of ways: money, connections, etc. What really sends me wild is a woman with drive: a woman who not only knows what she wants, but has the willpower to go out and get it. Entrepreneur with ambitions to corner the market and build a corporate empire? That is as hot as any characteristic I can think of.

So, ladies, please don't think that guys don't want you to outperform us. A lot of us want you to love what you do and for you to be happy being you. We want you to have great success, we want you to have that internal drive to do what you feel passionate. It takes not only the pressure of providing off of our shoulders, but it also gives you something else to focus on when we are being total idiots (as is our wont).

Only if her "ambition" is to be a good wife and mother to our children. Those are the ambitions that seem to have disappeared in most modern women.

Most good men... the ones who have the qualities that women are drawn to... are not looking for a woman to be a provider. It's just not in our genes. I mean let's face it, a man who is looking for a women to take the pressure of providing off his shoulders... that's not the kind of man that most desirable women are interested in.

@HaveQuestions I said nothing about intelligence. The most intelligent women I know are in fact full time moms, and they are FAR better mothers and wives than their ambitious working mother/wife counterparts who always seem to be very stressed and burdened with the guilt of knowing they are doing a less-than-adequate job in each of the important roles in their lives. That is just the reality of it.

My wife's a stay at home mom. She is going to take back over her business once the babies are in school. I'm just a placeholder for her so she can focus on them.
I know first hand how driven a woman can be, while being an amazing mother. Why I was blowing this guy off is because he was saying that he only cared for women who only have a drive to be a mother, and that women who focused on other things aren't worth the time of day.

This is good... I always find guys liking the dumb/not smart girls? I've always been very ambitious, pushed, and motivated throughout my whole life (strict parents and also just that is how I am). But I don't know, no guys like me, but to be honest I don't know many since I go to an all girls school lol

There's a lot of women with really toxic personalities who work hard and have some goal of some kind, but they're just horrible to be around, and we all know how those women like to latch on to their one good quality and say, "Oh, my ambition is scaring off all the cowardly men, yeah that's it. They can't handle my awesomesauce."

You're absolutely correct. I just think that ambition automatically gets a negative connotation, so I was trying to make the case that it's not bad in and of itself, and that it can be quite attractive in fact.

Guys just like hot women smart or dumb. You see it all the time like remember years ago when the band skillet burst on the scene with a hot sexy jailbait drummer, they all talked about what a great musician she was and how she was role model for girls but really if she was unattractive the call her shit. It was the same with White Stripes drummer Meg White girl's put her on a pedestal because she was doing something girls rarely did by playing drums and guys noticed that she had big tits and never wore a bra under her t-shirt.

I'd want my partner to do whatever made them happy. However, if I were to have children, I'd prefer myself and my partner to both work part-time and be equally involved in raising the child.

In the past when it was rare for women to work your opinion would have been the norm. These days, though, there's less emphasis on gender roles and more on the individual. I think that's a very good thing as it gives everyone more freedom - men can raise families and women can hold jobs if that's what they want to do.

To answer your question, well, I'm still young. I haven't fully determined what it is I'm looking for in a partner and at this point I can't even say for sure that I do want to get married. I don't think I'd mind what choice they made, so long as they were pursuing their passions - a trait I find very attractive (both in men and in women).

Yes, this would be wonderful, but it rarely plays out that way in real life.
I'm sure my wife would like to work part time, but she realizes that she's needed more at home (for now). We have both talked about teaching or tutoring part time in our later years when we're old and grayer.
For now, we both try to focus on the kids as they grow up quickly. We have pretty much gone the "gender role" route as we both see the genders as different, with innate strengths and weaknesses.
There's a lot of sacrificing of "dreams" when you focus on the kids, but it's worth it.
Then again you could say our "dream" was raising decent kids. So far so good.

I'm not attracted to ambition so much as the passion within it. I honestly don't care that much if a girl is ambitious, striving for some major goal as long as she is still growing and passionate. Like a girl doesn't win points over a hot girl who is passionate about life and wants to have adventure, just because she's a CEO of a major organization.

Honestly tho, I think this is similar to like when a fight commentator only gives a fighter the compliment "he's so tough". Which really means, he's getting his ass kicked. He's sucking up the fight. But he's not giving up. So there's that one somewhat redeeming quality.

That's how ambition is commonly used, when describing a woman. If her major compliment is "ambitious" there's probably not much else to her and she's probably as @Bananaman177 said "toxic".

I completely agree, but I don't think most guys do though. In any case driven/ambitious women are very rare, there's plenty who think they're driven/ambitious, but few who actually are, when the going gets tough or when they get offered a life of ease.

Yes I totally agree, I was in love with her character. Ambitious women are super sexy and attractive. I spent half the movie wondering why Tom Cruise didn't go with her. I'd have done it without hesitation. Smart girls are the bomb!

Ambitious women are more focused on their goals/gains more than the relationship itself. They are good only as sex partner, but not beyond that.
