Why This Whole Makeup vs No Makeup Debate Should Just Stop

Why this whole makeup vs no makeup debate should just stop.

It's 2015 and there are many hot topic issues on the table, a decent amount of which involve women. One of these has been a debate on whether women should or shouldn't wear makeup. Both sides, as usual with most debates, bring up excellent points to reinforce their arguments. However, I think this is just an issue that should be cleared off the table entirely, here's why:

There are many reasons why some say women shouldn't wear makeup. Usually men give the reasons that it is deceiving, like photoshop, and that natural beauty in any form is always better than "artificial" beauty. Women tend to say many things like that it's a time waster, expensive, and bad for the skin. Not to mention the arguments that makeup can be damaging towards women and femininity in general.

For the guys who give those reasons, have you ever really seen a woman without makeup on? Many men cannot even tell when a women is wearing it or not, and many "natural" beauty models have perfect lighting and photoshop to offset the lack of makeup. Not to mention they're already gifted with above average looks. I challenge you to see a woman without makeup during a bad day. She only got 5 hours of sleep the night before and has been having a stressful week. I can guarantee you your reaction will range from her looking "sick", "tired", or "zombie like" to "ugly" or "looks like a dude". For those who have been in long-term relationships with a woman before, you probably have already been used to seeing women without makeup, and thus you don't really mind it or care. Many guys haven't been around enough completely powderless women to understand it yet. By the way, it's not "deceiving" for her to wear makeup. She still has the same facial structure and general looks as before, her face just look much neater and prettier now. Think of it as a freshly washed, waxed, and shined car vs one that's just been parked outside for a month or two.

For the women who give those reasons, it is quite true makeup does take some time to do (properly, at least) and it can clog pores among other things. Let's not forget how expensive makeup use can cost. In addition, you could easily craft a convincing argument about how makeup coves up, figuratively and literally, the beauty of women and how its use drags down the welfare of women in today's society. Here's the problem, not every woman shares the same lifestyle and values as every other woman. You might see makeup as oppressive towards women while another woman sees it as enhancing her femininity.

The truth is, many women enjoy or at the very least feel more comfortable wearing makeup. That woman I mentioned above who was tired and stressed out isn't probably going to be too confident in her looks if she doesn't wear makeup. Makeup has the ability to turn a woman who is down under and fatigued into one that looks warm and alive. Makeup has the ability to turn a woman that got zits out of nowhere into one who looks flawless. Makeup can easily make a woman feel more confident about her looks and herself. It can also make a woman feel more feminine. Many women strive for those feelings of confidence and femininity, whether it can be considered "wrong", "outdated", or "artificial" to do so. Makeup can also be a hobby (and actually is a job: cosmetology) to many women. Sure, it takes time and money like many other hobbies, but a large number of women feel accomplished and proud when they do their makeup and it comes out looking just right. Besides, what girl doesn't like getting compliments on how great her makeup is done?

This is why I think the whole "makeup vs no makeup" argument needs to stop. It just puts women themselves in the crossfire. In addition, trying to say and force what women should do, wear, think, or feel shouldn't be tolerated in 2015. Whether a woman chooses to wear makeup or not is her choice, and nobody should force her or ridicule her on the decisions she makes. In other words, do whatever the f**k you want to do, ladies.
