Why do people always say I look better in person? Is that an insult?

My friend saw a picture of me one time, and said, "you look better in person". At first I was kind of mad because I thought that was rude for her to say. And also, that picture was actually a good picture of me...b/c I have taken much worse. Anyway, was she saying that I take ugly pictures? I do take good pics sometimes, but for the most part, I guess I look horrible in pics. I just don't get it. People usually say I'm pretty, but my pictures say other wise. So how is it possible for a pretty person to look so ugly in pictures? Does that also mean I'm ugly too?

no not an insult at all. Some people just do not like pictures or cameras at all. I dated a girl that had all of 2 pictures of herself because she hated having her picture taken, granted it was a self-conscious thing with her but some people just don't do photos. Personally though I always prefer the real thing to a photo. And no, it doesn't mean that you are ugly...AT ALL, it just means that the person who said that to you preferred to see you in person.

No, there are just some people who don't photograph well. Myself included. I'm quite animated in person, so when pictures are being taken of me they catch me at awkward moments. On the flipside there are people who photograph extremely well, but look ordinary in real life. A lot of models and celebrities are like this and if you ever get the chance to see them in person you'll be surprised by some. So, don't worry about it too much.
