Why do girls care so much about what other people think?

I've seen so many girls who evaluate their self-worth based on what OTHER people think about them. I've seen them justify their personalities solely based on what they think other people want. It makes me sad, but it also makes me really admire girls who are their own person. I know women are social creatures so a lot of their life is made up of "he said she said" or "whoever did/thinks/wants whatever," I just want to know what people think of this, and if it is bad or good? Why are some girls so willing to give up their identities to make society or peers happy?

It's because we're taught from a young age that our value is determined by people liking us. Your mom says"hey don't play in mud puddles boys don't like that" or "boys don't like girls who play sports, that's too masculine" or "be pretty so other girls want to be your friend" or the worst "boys like girls who are funny but not funnier than them because that emasculates them". Weare taught with our existence it has to be morfed tofitwhat each individuals wants (and whenever they want) so that people can like us, because apparently not having people like you is the worst things in the world. It's just stupid

I would try not to. Unlike my mother I'm a lot more accepting and way less old fashioned. Also I'm really into gender neutral parenting so that's what I'm going to be doing

I think everyone cares about what others think in a way. Not just girls but guys as well :) but to answer your question, it's because asking for validation has been part of our nature. Experiences and failures, in particular, somehow transform people into low self-esteem individuals instead of empowering and making them strong. And people cannot find happiness so they often rely on superficial standards of society. Hope this helps :)
