I don't think the meaning of invites to the gym are a gender thing. It's more of a personal thing, which would be determined by the tone, and context of the offer.

Well if she was talking about her workout, and was asking the guys opinion or for his help, she'd probably just be looking for a friend to hit the gym with.
If there was more flirting beforehand and no talk of exercise just an invite then that's probably her showing interest and wanting to get to know the guy a bit better.

If I ever asked a guy to work out with me the only reason would be to get close, and physical with him, or to or to show off. That's something I wouldn't do though a cute guy doesn't need to see me sweaty, and gross .
