Why do some girls take selfies with a lot of cleavage?

So I just realized yesterday as I was scrolling trough Instagram that there are a lot of girls that take pictures with a lot of cleavage. In many pictures it actually looks like the main purpose of the selfie is to show off their boobs, and sometimes they even crop out a bit of the face. I get that you don't want to hide your boobs, and neither should you, but is it really necessary to show that much skin? So do you do this to get attention, or just to show off? What do you hope to accomplish by this? Just to clarify I'm not hating or judging or anything but I just don't understand what the meaning of a picture with 50% boobs is.

  • I usually don't. In fact, in "real life" I don't show boob or ass cleavage. I've always had issues with guys paying too much attention to something else that's not my face. Plus, after being raped, it has subconsciously made an objective not to look sexually appealing for most of my teens and early twenties. I even gained weight so most guys wouldn't look at me because being raped twice ain't fun. When I turn 23, I started experimenting and once in a while show cleavage. I've only taken a few cleavage selfies but for me is gaining my power back. It took me a while to realize most guys won't rape me. So for me, its not attention seeking.

  • I've actually been wondering the same thing for ages, and it's one of the reasons I never made an Instagram account.
    I suppose people have different reasons for exposing so much of themselves online, both male and female. One of them is the need of getting praised by others, which can develop into an obsession to fight one's insecurities. These pictures can also be the result of peer pressure, a revenge, a statement of body positivity or they can just be completely natural (if a girl happens to have larger breasts, for example).
    But I do think it has gotten somewhat out of control.

    But I when I take pics majority of them have cleavage. Whether I pose or just smile majority of the time there will in fact be cleavage becaise I have large breast and I'm just not the kind of girl that likes big t-shirts or turtle necks. I'm not going to cover up every inch of my skin for something I can't control.

    • I get and respect that but it seems like a lot of girls purposely make the cleavage the center of the picture and some even cut out a bit of their faces to get enough boobs in. Kinda sad in my opinion.

  • They want attention and they think that cleave equals sexy. Now there are a lot of guys who are turned on by the mere sight of cleavage and it CAN be sexy but in my opinion it loses its appeal when it becomes an everyday thing and the girl goes around showing her tits to EVERYBODY! I mean, if the girl normally wears regular t-shirts, but she goes out on a date with you wearing a low-cut dress, that would be sexy. But if she just wears low-cut shirts every day that is just trashy and takes away all the excitement.

  • Maybe they think their face isn't good enough so they add cleavage to get more likes. Not saying it's that way, but the chicks who show boob on my Facebook are not the prettiest.
