Why do the majority of girls have such high standards?

I see so many guys get rejected by girls because they're not "hot enough" or don't make tons of money. They're usually the biggest hypocrites. My friend, for example, rejected a guy because she thought he was ugly when I actually thought she was out of his league. I hear about girls rejecting guys because they're not on the same level in terms of education or popularity. The same can apply to guys as well, but it's usually a lot more common among girls. Why do women have such high standards? Even the average overweight girl expects to find a super attractive, fit man and refuses to go out with someone who's also average.

I can't really say why that is though I agree with you. I think some guys have high standards but it's much more among women to be like that. I have been rejected by so many girls in my teenage years... I can't even count them anymore and ironically, nowadays, girls keep telling me when looking at old photos "wowww, you were so handsome/hot when you were 17!" (and I'm bitterly thinking "yeah well, back then nobody thought so").
I guess it has something to do with our western society and maybe our media that girls have become this way.
I think generally it's okay to have high standards but one thing that gets extremely on my nerves is when women reject even the hottest guy in their teens and 20s and act super arrogant and later when they are 35 or 40 and realize that they desperately want a baby or a husband they get all whiny and bitchy about it and complain that nobody wants them and that men are so mean and that no guy ever gave them a chance etc.. These types of women are like... they make me wanna punch them really hard ;-).

It's the same for men, they have high standards too I think. It's OK to have high standards if you can justify it.

I wonder if it's really "high standards"
when it's actually "no spark".
A lot of my GFs remark that these days it seems the gals are carrying more weight daily than guys, most working for less/free. So why go out of their way to add more weight with someone with no spark? Those buff guys that make money, shop, cook, clean up with time for romance are damn few.

The other side of this coin is the dark side of not having spark for the guy, thus rejected, we hear of "sour grapes" THEY have too many flaws for us. haha

I'm afraid in our 30's our choices are left overs and confirmed bachelors among all the one night stand shoppers. Although GFs tell me the 40's are the best times of their lives (if married), I'm afraid our side gets harder to sell, less motivated to shop in the single mingles market. Also, the market might be smaller?

I agree about the no spark thing. If you hear someone saying something like 'she has weird feet' it just means they weren't feeling it.

But as for left overs? Hardly. A lot of people put getting to a certain place financially and career wise before marriage.

My term for left over is different - they have been in one/several relationships, even marriage = scarring, "others" around, stalking them, baggage.

Girls are naturally inclined to have higher standards. It's a biological thing.

In nature, women can only reproduce a limited amount of times. They have to deal with ovulation and menstruation, and if they do get pregnant, they have to carry the baby for 9 months. This means that at best, a girl can only get one child every 9 months.

On the other hand, men can reproduce as often as they want. They can have theoretically infinite offspring.

Because of this discrepancy, girls are naturally inclined to be more picky. This is also the reason why many girls sit back and wait for guys to come to them. Thankfully, our society is slowly growing out of these sexist standards.

I really don't care too much about looks. The amazing thing about being a woman is that if you like a guy for his attributes you may not find him that attractive at first but once you fall for him he is the hottest guy on the planet to you. My best friend didn't believe me on this until she met her husband. He isn't a bad looking guy by any means but she always dated losers her to her were good looking.

It's kind of like magic how love can make anyone attractive. Anyone how picks a partner based on looks is foolish and short sighted.
