Why are girls asking about whether guys can lift them? What do girls hope to gain from being lifted up by their boyfriends?

My best friend in college carried both me and my friend, one over each shoulder one night on the way home from the bars when we were trying to do something stupid. I didn't appreciate that actually because it foiled our plans and made me feel powerless.

But in general yes I'd like to know if a broke my foot on a hike or something he could carry me back. I'm not proud of it but that is how I feel.

The main reason is to feel like he is masculine and you are feminine. To be swept off your feet.
For others it's that feeling of being able to be controlled. Picked up and thrown on a bed. Again, masculine and feminine.
And also it's fun. To be picked up during a play fight, makes a girl laugh.

I like it for those reasons but also because I am a bigger girl (even at my lightest). It's nice to still be lifted.

Well yes know that it doesn't convey the same connotation in U. S. English. It at best is translated as to be in accord with the plight of an underdog kind of thing. You know yanks don't like to be viewed as an underdog. In French it means support but it isn't used that way in American English. I was just trying to help with that gap.

@nakedalligator Yes I understand that is one of the definitions you will find in the dictionary. It just isn't the way it is most commonly used in U. S. English. When it is used that way that isn't what the recipient hears. Though Cinderelli isn't a yank a lot of English second language speakers learn Anericab English. I'm not trying to pile on to the guy. I was just saying he didn't mean he feels 'pity' by using the word sympathy. Agree or concur isn't the way we tend to use that word but I do hear Brits use it. I thought he was French speaking British English he spelled it 'ise' and it is a French word.

@sjoes006 Well when people use it to mean pity then I would feel they are either using the word incorrectly or they are using it with sarcastic undertones. Pity is always used to feel sorry for, sympathy can be used for sorrow, but can also be applied to sharing a common cause. Though you are correct in that it's not used to mean agree with very often and it may suggest that you share common struggles.
