Its just a complement to say they find you attractive. its sounds less obvious than and intimadating than saying beautiful or sexy or hot. Of course there is difference when i guy says it depends on what traits they are attracted too.
A quiet girl or shy girl would probably called cute because her behavior around the guys she likes and people she dosn't know in general. The way she dresses usually if they dress in less slutty or revealing way you would consider to be cute because they are trying to hide it because shy with the attention. Its usually used by younger guys on younger girls since it dosn't sound so sexual in nature it still can be used. I used when i was in primary and early secondary school for that reason. But it dosn't mean they don't find you sexy or beautiful and consider you be more childish either. The older the girl looks or dresses the less they get the cute looks usually cause woman can find it a little vexing and less flattering than 'stronger' words and believe they find them cute like they would a little sister or cousin. The problem is when you think of cute you get teddy bears, kittens , little puppies and fluffy stuff its just really innocent and dosn't really seem like something a girl or woman wants to hear from the guy there attracted too as it makes some woman believe they don't consider them a woman in a sexual way. Its probably bareable from a friend especially of the same gender but it still would feel kind like a cop out.
You should enjoy the complements it means they still consider you be youthful and adorable in a good way. If you don't like it then try to dress in away that makes you look more worldly and mature.
As a guy I have used cute on woman and girls before and it has mixed results depending on there age and how mature they are. Some enjoyed it (hyper loud less mature woman) while others were fine (Usual woman but still young they took it the right way ) but you can tell they would of rather got something more meaningful back. While some woman including my ex you could tell from look on her face she was thinking what does that mean? I am cute? Does that mean he finds attractive am i sexy? That kind of thing it was all written over her face.
As for guys its kind of like a girl saying wow "he is really cute" Its almost like getting strapping or dashing. Some guys are fine with handsome i think most of us guys would rather get sexy or gorgeous something that sounds more gradious so i understand why its meh.

It means that they find you attractive. I know it gives you a ill feelings but when people think your adorable they can also find you cute.

in my opinion, 'cute' , applied to an adult girl means sexy and nice , while 'hot' means sexy and possibly mean.
