Why would he mention he has a girlfriend?

so this guy and I have been really shy around each other. we very recently been able to have small talks. one day we had a really great conversation for almost an hour. he glances at me all the time and always walks out of class with me, even if we don't talk. he fb messaged me something simple and we talked for a little there, but he started giving me awkward short answers. I thought he got bored or something.

but today he actually approached me himself (I'm always the one to initiate conversations). he asked how I was and we talk and talk (walking so close we bump arms, sitting so close we brush) but then I ask him if he's explored the city (he's not from my town) and he says yeah, he knows areas well. then he drops the bomb and says 'my girlfriend lives in that area'. he's single on fb, has no pics with her, etc. plus he's always so shy around me and I see him talking normally with other people. plus all the staring ... and he goes home after class every day and said he just goes to bars when his friends come up...again, no girlfriend being mentioned.

he could have a girlfriend because fb isn't everything, but why would he just sorta blurt it out? by the way, he wore sunglasses the entire time and I thought it was strange especially since we were underground... would a guy lie about something like that? does he not like me? I'm sorta confused.

Sounds weird to me. As a guy I can confidently say that no matter how experienced we are there will always be that one girl who confuses us, and I am sure that we as guys would confuse that girl. Your best bet is to ask.

I had a fling with one girl years ago, that while we went out to a coffee shop she blurted out something about a boyfriend. I did the same saying that my girlfriend did something. When she acted weird with me about me saying that, I asked her if she had a boyfriend,she clarified it stating that she meant ex. That night we got to know each other "very well". So it is hard to say.

I am facing a similar dilemma with a girl currently, and in this case it's plain to see that she is very interested in me.

So to answer your question my suggestion is ask him if he is single or ask him out on a date and make sure you show your interest to him and be aggressive. At that point he will make it clear to you.

I don't think he has a girlfriend. I mean, he seemed interested in me with all the staring and walking me out of class all the time and the nervousness/speechlessness around... I mean, not to sound like I'm stalking him, but there's no signs of a girlfriend on his fb page, no writing on the wall or pics or him even changing his relationship status. I'd think there'd be something, ya know. I was hoping a guy would understand this lol

Hm. Since I am in a similar predicament, it is not only a guy thing, so it comes down to personality type. While every person is different, there are certain things that each personality type has in common. Maybe by helping you solve your dilemma, it can help me solve mine.

It could be insecurities or fears. It sounds to me like he is of the introvert or shy personality. What kind of temperament or personality is he? It can help me figure him out.

He's quiet, but he does share his opinions. when we're talking, he goes a mile a minute, but he's also sorta bashful when he's talking about himself. he always asks me about my opinions/life. he tells jokes all the time - I mean, I'm smiling thinking about his humor. he does get sorta quiet when we talk or today I mentioned that we should go to a school game next time there's a home one and he's like 'yeah, yeah, we should' but he's looking away, which makes me feel like that was a no? idk...

Also today I spotted him sitting by himself reading, so I came up and said hi and he's like literally shaking (his hands) while he's talking to me, stammering and whatnot. I eventually said I'd see him later because I felt like I was making him super uncomfortable :/

Seems like he likes you and you make him very nervous. Try talking with him more and make him feel more comfortable.

He might be testing you, or he might actually have a girlfriend. Either way, if he does, you'll find out for sure at some point.

I had a similar issue with a girl. And now that she has opened up a lot to me (she is extremely shy and reserved) she is definitely showing interest signs lots of them. Not once has she mentioned this "boyfriend" again. Never before and never again. The chemistry between us is undeniable (even her friends see it and mention it). Why would someone say that, and why use it in a test if it is untrue?

Some people are just like that. I guess maybe if he wants to know if you really like him, then in his mind, if he says he has a girlfriend and you keep pursuing him, then it means you're making an effort for him, or something.

Or the other way around - he likes you but not in that way and is trying to come up with a legitimate/gentle way of saying no. I don't think anyone on here could say for sure tbh, you'll just have to ask or wait and find out =\

So he has a girl in his life, but I think they're just sleeping together sometimes because he doesn't even know how to get to her place. what does that say?
