We like each other, but he has a girlfriend...what to do!?

We have known each other for a bit over a month, and we've been hanging out together - just the two of us - quite a bit recently. We have both admitted to liking each other, and he told me that he wished he had met me sooner, because right now he has a girlfriend who he has been with for over a year.

I have asked a couple of close friends, and I've pretty much gotten equal responses on "back off and leave him alone" and "stay friends, and see what happens later down the road."

But I really just don't know what to do. The way he treats me and talks to me, it's already as if we're dating...only there is no physical contact. There can't be, because he has a girlfriend.

I would NEVER do anything to come between the two of them. I don't want to risk another girl her chance at true love and whatnot. I know what's meant to be will be in the end... but as of right now, at this very moment, I'm confused. Do I stay friends, continue hanging out with him as we've been doing? Or do I just let it go to save myself heartache later down the road?

I was in the same situation about a year ago. He would tell me things like "I wish my girlfriend wasn't in the picture right now", or "I like you so much more than I like her". I believed it and honestly, it made me feel really special.

After his girlfriend found out about our relationship (he never cheated, but our emotional relationship you could say) it kind of just hit me that well, I wasn't special in his eyes. He was never willing to dump his girlfriend for me, but I was too blind to see that. We were practically dating at the time minus the physical stuff, and I see now that he was getting from me what he wasn't getting from his girlfriend, compatibility and fun and all that kind of stuff.

Either way you need to find someone who wants you for all of you, not someone who is attached to someone else.

let him go. There's probably issues in his relationship and he's hanging out with you to escape them. He's already emotionally cheating with you..and you don't want that to happen to you if you guys get together. He may even be lying to you just to get into your pants you never really know a guy's motive. Just back away and you fall into like with someone else...it's just been a month...and you don't want to do anything you both may regret and possibly have your feelings grow more while he's still with her.

I'm in the same situation right now. I've gotten advice from good friends to wait for him for a little while. Not forever, but still to wait. Stay friends. Keep doing what you've been doing. Things will eventually work themselves out. Whether or not they will be in your favor... that nobody really knows. But you can't find out unless you try.

Well don't spend your life waiting for him. If he really wanted to be with you he'd break up with his girlfriend or he's to much of a coward and is just leading her on and you don't want to be with a guy like that. Tell him he's has to make a choice between you and his girlfriend. Think of this other girls feelings she may not like that he left her for another girl but its better than him doing it behind her back. Personally I think this guy sounds like a loser. I mean who would lead a girl on like that and he is leading on either you or his gf.

Don't be that person that is too greedy and selfish to let someone else do their own thing.

If their relationship ends, then hop on that like white on rice. BUT, like I said, it'll cause too many problems not only between you and him, but you and his ex.

Thanks for your reply. If he didn't have a girlfriend, I would already be all over him. But... that isn't the case. I'm too much of a "people-please" to have there be any problems between me and him, or me and his girlfriend (whom I have never even met.) Honestly, I'm not counting on their relationship to end. and that's fine... if they love each other and care for each other, I really wish them all the best.

if you home-wrecker yes if not then NO, (this is where you have to use head rather than go by you feelings) and if leaves his girlfriend for you, then he will leave you for another girl who will come along because he thinks she's better

I'm not a home-wrecker. I wouldn't even consider dating a person who left their current girlfriend for me... I just wouldn't feel right doing it. So I'm glad that option hasn't crossed his mind. And I always go with my head first when it comes to "love" and whatnot. I just enjoy hanging out with him, but true... I should probably back off so he doesn't think I have other motives... :(
