Why did I feel bad turning him down?

I was walking my dog today, this guy came up to me really excited and thought my dog was "so cute!" I let him pet her and we were having small talk about our pets... he was pretty flirtatious the whole time, he asked if I was heading to the park and if he could walk with me and I said no thanks. I was not attracted to him in any way... but I always feel this way after turning down guys... I feel guilty afterward and think "what if?" He could have been a great guy...Am I being too picky? Physically I found him unattractive/ugly, his personality was... friendly but a little weird, he was nervous I guess... still I feel a little bad for turning him down... I am single... just looking to hook up basically, I would love to have a boyfriend but I'm not at the right spot in life...

You feel bad because you know you hurt a genuinely nice guy's feelings. You didn't mean to, and you're not a mean person.

We all go through it. If he had been a jerk, you wouldn't have felt bad about turning him down. There are lots of nice guys in the world, and you don't have to date someone simply based on the fact that he's nice, It doesn't sound like you're being too picky, you just don't like the idea of hurting people's feelings.

Don't feel bad, that initial attraction is important.

Using "what if" isn't practical because then there'd just be too many different roads you could go down and it gets too hectic!

Trust me, you would have felt worse leading him on, so it's OK, guys can move on quick if you give them a straight up answer.
