We gave novice writers everywhere a chance to flex their literal muscle with May's "first story" writing competition, and we've now decided on the winners.
As previously explained, we wanted pieces that were of good quality, that engaged the community, and that could spread far and wide. In addition to artistry and creativity, we also wanted to see really interesting premises that would appeal to a large number of people; i.e., universal concepts. We saw a great many submissions and some of them were fantastic, which is why this wasn't an easy decision. The good news is that if you didn't win, you can always look forward to the next writing competition (which might kick off in June).
So anyway, I know you're all anxious to know who won, so here are the winners of the first, second and third prizes:

Congrats to all the winners, you guys deserved it! Don't think I'll be putting myself out there again, I tried something new but it wasn't to be I don't think, oh well.
@Waffles731 thank you but I think it got a more negative reaction than positive and that made me quite sad. I feel silly for putting myself out there and feeling those emotions again. But thank you v much, it really does mean a lot to me :)
Ok so, I read your opinion and decided to read your take and it was really good, honestly! But what you're about to do is really very bad. That's so pessimistic approach. Personally, I wanted to participate in this contest too and it was going to be super personal that I decided to post it as anon what I never do. But... I didn't have guts. Participation is a victory in itself img.picturequotes.com/.../...i-succeed-quote-3.jpg Don't write solely to win something, but write it because you love it. Just because someone in the world didn't appreciate it as much as you think it should be, it doesn't mean that you should ruin your talent. Ultimately, it'll be your own loss. I've participated in other contests and shared some witty posts and received lot of upvotes but the selected winners were just generic. I was like "well duh!" And I carried on to make other people happy who really appreciate (d) me. Who knows if they really liked your post and you were on the 4th place? Good luck :)
@YourFutureEx tbh it's not about not winning. I received some really negative feedback from posting it. I didn't want to post it anon because that's not me, I don't hide behind anon. So yes, it's not about not winning, heck I'm one of the biggest losers out there, I never ever expect to win, I just didn't like expressing myself on such a personal level and to then have my experience mocked or told it isn't real. I'm just not about constantly being torn down for the things I say or do, I get enough of that in my real life, I don't need to come on gag and have it here as well. I would rather just not participate or try at things and that's ok. I'm not hurting anyone by doing that.
@YourFutureEx well it was half and half on comments from the handful of people who bothered to read it but yeah I also got some PM's too. Which is the downfall of posting as yourself. It also was very personal to me and brought up some old feelings. But at the end of the day, the world isn't going to be missing out on my 'talent' because I don't have any, what's the point in trying when you're not good enough anyway.
