I don't miss it. I saw it as an indirect, distasteful way to express dislike for an opinion, when someone could do it directly and respectfully by replying to the opinion with what they disagreed about. It somehow reminds me of those petitions where, when somebody has an "uncool" political opinion, tens of thousands of people vote them out of a job.
Upvoting says you agree with the opinion. Downvoting says you disagree with it, but it doesn't explicitly say WHAT you disagree with. If a person believes he/she is right to disagree with the opinion, he/she should have the courage to confront the person with a direct response.
Also, sites with downvote buttons tend to become circlejerks.
