I don't understrand, why does he change all of a sudden?

My sentimental past is quite tormented, I'm 20 and I've never dated/kiss/anything with a guy even if according to most people I'm pretty.

I met this guy who's 24 and it was instant crush for me, but I can't tell if it's the same for him: he's very extroverted, he teases and jokes with everybody, he's got many female friends and he's very touchy.
The fact is, he suddenly changes when the two of us happen to be alone, he becomes serious and more mature and I can't tell why.

While we were talking he told me he's quite a sociopath, because he'd rather stay at home instead of hanging out (he only has friends from high school and sees them on Christmas, Easter and summer).
He also "jokingly" says that he's ugly, obese and "speckled" (he's got vitiligo) while his younger brother is handsome.

I put two and two together, and I think maybe it's a way to tell me he's got no experience with girls and doesn't know what to do (I don't know either), but again I don't understand his switch of personality.

I asked him out for a coffee once, but he answered me he'd rather stay home sleeping, so I really don't know what to think or what to do with him.

you know some people (even if surrounded by many other people) can still feel alone...concerning his change of attitude; you know most boys are like this, i.e:they hide their emotions when they are in public/surrounded by friends..they give a tough image of them..its the male ego...if he is mostly of a home person..then he might be sincere since he is able to reveal his true feelings in front of you

He's scared to show vulnerability and risk getting rejected... That's why he puts himself down (before anyone else can) and doesn't want to go out with you... You are probably right about his lack of experience, I'm sure he lacks self esteem as well.
