He's told me he likes me, but now he's being distant, again?

I've known this guy for over a year now, last summer we were friends with benefits and then he stopped speaking to me, and got a girlfriend. Then around 6 months ago he started speaking to me again, trying to get me to be with him but I've consistently told him no, cause he does still have a girlfriend and I told him nothing will happen between us because of that reason. So now we've just been speaking normally, like friends would, but i had found out my dad has cancer and told him and then later on while still reeling over the news of my dad and being emotional, I asked him if all I was was sex to him and he never answered so I told him I was done with his games, and for him to have a nice life, and he was messaging me constantly till I finally broke and replied. Then we continued talking normally, for a while and about two weeks ago he out of the blue said he likes me, but that he knows it's bad timing, and that he can't do anything till he ends his relationship.

My reaction wasn't splendid all I said was what? Because it was out of the blue and I wasn't expecting it, but I did a few days after say sorry for my reaction and that I do feel the same but I understand that it's not good timing for it. He never said anything about what I said, and he's been quite distant since then. I feel like part of it is because I am out visiting family and the last time I was visiting them he wasn't very talkative... But if he does like me why not at least once a day or every other day make contact? The last time he talked to me, it was back to the sexual stuff he used to do, which I was surprised by it cause he hasn't done it in a while... I'm wondering if it's just another game, but he's never brought up his feelings before or anything of the sort, so I'm completely lost on this matter. somebody give some insight please?

he is just messing with u and his girlfriend as well... so make it clear to him that he is only ur friend and not more than that... u have to do it... and by this post i can judge that u have strong feelings for this guys i know it is gonna be painful but u have to do it its good for u... just imagine if u would have been in his girlfriend's place how would u feel?

I have been in that place before, which is why it's real screwed up for me to be on the other end. He hasn't contacted me since, and I asked why he feels the need to do this to me but he won't reply. Either way I've decided it's time to move on, it's difficult but I know it's necessary.
