One possibility is that he doesn't consider it to be anything deep that shouldn't be shared. Another is that he's trying to get affection from you by showing that he trusts you.
I wouldn't consider it to be the strangest of things, some people are just more open with others, but of course if your gut is telling you that this isn't normal behavior, then at least be a bit cautious. I could easily see this situation leading to him expecting something on your end, yet it could very well be that he's quickly grown comfortable with you as well.
Many possibilities, as time passes you'll get a better understanding I suppose.
Sometimes its just nice to open up to a random person. I personally love telling random people things, it lack the consequences of sharing with a deep friend and you get new insight. Sometimes a similar perspective gets stale. Maybe he thought you were interesting and wanted to see your reaction.
