It's natural for guys to like smaller waist and wider hips, it's written in their dna. It has something to do with having children.
But reason why guys like thin/slim girls that are small overall, is that media represents that body type positively and attractive. It has brainswashed people to think that thin=healthy which is not the case.
And I'm not saying that being overweight is good and should be promoted, no. But I think normal/average body is the most healthy. Women have naturally more fat in their body and that is how its supposed to be. But fat is demonized.

its all evolutionary. a thin waist with big boobs and big butt suggests fertility. even if men are not looking to have kids, this is already burned into their minds. plus with the media covering these kinds of girls, it is the expected standard of beauty

Over weight people were thought to be slovenly and lazy.
Obesity today remains a medical mystery. Yeah some causes are identified, but exactly what causes the causes remains in high debate.
In the same way that women find men who are larger (tall, broad shoulders, thick arms) more attractive, men find women who are more petite attractive. Of course there are exceptions, but for the most part a woman just have to be shaped nicely and symmetrically. It's not a bigger=better formula when it comes to asses, etc.
A cute little thing inspires the protective urge. They're also much more fun to throw around during sex, and when you cuddle afterwards you can really get your arms around her and hold her close.

I persoanlly prefer thin girl with small waist and flat stomach, This mainly because I'm brainwashed by a line that says "having a flab is a woman's enemy". yep, a flab. ever since I read that sentence I only consider woman with small waist, thin-slender body with flat stomach, I'm a fit guy and when I sit I could see flab on my stomach and it irked me and obviously, I would prefer girls that are slim and fit.
Its only natural not to be attracted to fat, as it generally is a subconscious indication that the person does not look after themselves properly. Also guys are also generally attracted to smaller woman, both height and in circumference, so that is why thinner girls win out over fatter ones. You will find that guys are not as bothered about big breasts as you claim, proven by the surveys on this site.
