Why does he call me pet names?

Me and this guy started to talk and he's been calling me babe, boo or hun (mostly babe and boo). I never have been called that before and I want to know why he's calling me it. I asked him and he said it's just what he says when he is seeing someone, when he's with someone he calls them it. I feel awkward I guess since I haven't called him anything. I just want to know what it means or what he means when he says that. Thanks :)

I think it's quite normal? I find it weird if my bf calls me by my name.. It's like: If I call you babe (or anything else) you're mine ;)
