Why do guys say "let me know when you're in town," or "we do xyz when you're in town"?

I find it insulting. They act so excited to potentially do something with you, wanting to watch a movie, cuddle, or go out to dinner, but recently, I've been getting a lot of thsee responses. Even one wanting to do those things IF I move to his city. What is it ththe catch? Why will men not invest time in a woman that isn't conveniently right THERE. If she's a little distance away, they refuse to put effort into coming to see her. Is it just a lack of maturity? Lack of interest? It just really makes me feel cheap and like last choice when they ssay this shit after conversing with me. I don't even text back, or I say something about just seeing where life takes me. Why will they not make the move to venture to me?
