so my boyfriend and I broke up for about a week and then we got back together but recently we broke up again because he thought I cheated when I really didn't. when we talked he told me that he had hooked up with another girl the first time we broke up when it was just a week. technically I can't get mad at him because we weren't together but it just pisses me off that he would do that when it had only been not even a week along.

1) He was probably talking to this female while you were dating.
or...
2) Your relationship didn't mean anything to him.

I'm just saying, if I broke up with someone, who supposedly loved me, for the first time and within that week they cheated, never told me, and we get back together, THEN tries to project his cheating onto me.. I'd be pissed. If he cared about you the way that you make him seem to care, he wouldn't have crawled on top of another woman so quickly. You have to respect yourself to know when you deserve better. I feel if he sees that you so readily forgive him for this folly he can do something equally as bad next time and be forgiven. I hope I'm not coming off as mean, I really don't mean to. It feels silly to go through a break without actually discussing the terms. Both partners should be on board with the meaning before going through with it. Although breaks are usually impulsive.

I suppose it's a good sign if there's a time limit to the break (i. e 1 week or 2).

The way I see with the terms is :

- if nothing is said about being able to sleep around, assume that it's NOT OK.

- If there is a time limit set, it's likely to be just a break.

- The person who initiated the break should be the person who initiates first contact post-break.
