What does it mean when a guy says "maybe"?

This guy I've been dealing with for a while says "maybe" a lot I've noticed. The other nigh for example I've asked him "Haha so whenever you have a bad day at work do I make your day?" And he kind of paused, half smiled and said "maybe", and then he asked the same thing back to me and so I said "Maybe" as well. Another good time we had I asked him if I'm seeing him next week and he was like "maybe". He ended up calling the following week and made plans but it didn't work out. So I'm not sure why he says maybe a lot?

He's either VERY indecisive, or, he likes playing around with you, wants to surprise you. When my mom asked if I got her anything for mothers day (orchids), I said in a sly tone "maybbbbeeee". Of course I knew I did, I just can't say I did, it wouldn't be a surprise

He just doesn't wanna say yes in order to not appear as clingy, or that he likes you.
I say "maybe" when I don't wanna really say what I'm feeling, or what I really wanna say.

Yeah eh, I wasn't sure if he's just trying to find a better way to say "no" and keep his options open, or if he's kind of scared to say how he really feels. Do you have any advice on how to approach that idea?

He smiles at you, and makes plans. I doubt he's just keeping his options open. Do you think he may be some sort of jerk or player?
For what you say on the question, I think he does like you but doesn't wanna be too open about it.

i'm not sure.. I just know right when we started seeing each other last spring he was breaking up with his ex girlfriend of 3 years. While I'm the opposite and been single for 3. He never talks about other girls, ever, except mentions his ex girlfriend briefly once in a while, but that's it. He did bring up about going to a music festival with me when I saw him the other day so I'm waiting for him to get back to me on it (hopefully)

He was in a relationship for 3 years, that means he's not afraid of commitment and most likely loyal, therefore, not a player. So I highly doubt he's playing with you, keeping his options open. Maybe he's just a little cautious, taking things slower since he just got out of a long relationship, but he's still making approaches, he's still showing interest. You should also show some interest, I mean, don't always wait for him to make the first move, maybe what he's doing is trying to see if you also like him, and if you just wait for him all the time he may end up thinking you're not as interested as him.

Yeah for sure :) sometime she brings alcohol and then leaves it here with me for another time. And I guess so, we've been dealing for a year now so sometimes I think it's never going to happen. He's been asking for a back massage lately but isn't willing to give one back though.. lmao? So I've been saying no to that so far :s

You were right! Lol I was all worried he just didn't wanna say something mean or rude. Like the other week after giving him head I teased him by asking him who gives the best head (asking him in the moment kind of thing). Then he smiled and was like "nah not answering that". So I kinda got upset obviously thinking he doesn't wanna tell me to my face it's another girl.

Then when I saw him this week he admitted I give him the best head he's ever had. And I was like what why you didn't tell me that last week? And he was like "cause I didn't wanna give you a major ego boost"
