Self-deprecating humor is good but not in the way you're using it. I call it "recovery humor," if I say or do something stupid. Something I do, I don't know if it "works" but girls usually find it funny. If I know I've said something stupid, I'll start pileing on stupid in increments to the stupid thing I said until it becomes absurd. I figure If I string it out as a joke she may forget about the stupid thing I said. This probably doesn't really work. BECAUSE WOMEN REMEMBER EVERYTHING!
Yeah, I got a self-defacating sense of humor my own self. I often say things like, "I'm so fulla crap my eyes are brown"!. Or, "I'm crazier 'n a sh*thouse rat"! But, I don't think it's necessarilly a bad thing, and I disagree that it makes me a less effective priest.
yeah it would have a negative affect on how people view you. it won't make you look cool or anything, it kind of has that loserish vibe. no offense I'm not saying that you are, but how you present yourself helps shape how others view you. if you keep pointing out that you're ugly or lame...why would anyone see you differently?
It just shows that you don't have that great of self-confidence and makes you seem insecure about things like that.
It's good to be able to laugh at yourself, but making fun of yourself on a regular basis shows insecurity.
