Is he Lying? Why would this guy tell me his phone is broken... Is it really?

I recently have been talking to this guy online on Facebook. We haven't spoken much. But he has shown interest and told me he would really like to go out sometime when I asked him. He's in a band, I don't think he works, so his financial situation is not well. He doesn't have a car either. I think he lives with his brother who also is in the band, in a small apartment. So when he told me (I offered my number to him) that his phone broke awhile ago and he just never got a new one, I didn't think much of it. Buut then I see on Facebook he has the blue FB messenger logo, not the grey one, next to his name... And messenger is only available through phone usage. Sooo what is the truth? What are all scenarios here? Bc all I see is a lie and disinterest.

If you question if he is into you he isn't. He might fancy you and like you physically but it's doesn't seem like an emotional attraction. If he really liked you or wanted to know you he would make an effort to talk to you. Don't chase him

My phone broke a year back so I used my iPad that can get the messenger app but couldn't receive text messages.

How long ago did he say his phone broke? Cuz let's be honest here most people these days don't go long without having a phone!!
If you're instincts are telling you he's lying, he probably is.

Most of us would go above and beyond to get a phone and if he can't buy he one he can always get an old one off a friend. I would say he's definitely being lame and using that as his excuse. After only a week, he isn't worth this much thought:)
