Why do some married men cheat?

I know I am going to be crucified for this, but it's okay, maybe I deserve this, but I am not totally in the wrong.

For more than a year know I have had an emotional and physical relationship with a married man. it started out before he was married and I have tried to end it, but it is difficult, as I started to get feelings for him. Recently we have been fighting, so I told him its over. Wasn't a while he asked to see me and we talked, him telling me how there is problems with his wife (no shit) and how he can't sleep with her anymore. so the two of us just ended up staring at each other not really saying a word and he held my hand. It felt weird, it felt like there is something but I really need to end it ( not that I wanted to, i really fell for this guy...) and what makes things difficult is he and his wife doesn't even live in the same town. So they only see each other every now and then. because of his work.

I know some will crucify me and I deserve it. but it is really hard letting go. My mind is all over the place... I don't understand why do some married men cheat?

i dunno, i've not had any longterm relationships.
i instinctively feel that to cheat on the woman you love, aside from being a bad thing to do, is a strange thing to do, why would you want to be with anyone else if you love this person?

the first obvious answer is that you don't, or no longer do.. love them that is.

but, the only time i've been properly in love i knew i loved her completely before we were together, so i've often wondered how i would have felt if i was already in love and married to someone else at that point, would i have not felt anything for her because i was already married? or would i forget my wife? or would i be in love with both women? i have no idea!

i know that i wouldn't cheat, that's just the way i am, but i don't know that it wouldn't be tempting..

in my opinion the two married people grow apart, but try to stay together to keep the nuclear family intact.

Makes you seriously question back in the day, how many of those couples were REALLY happily married and faithful.

Thats odd that he's still married and not "Separated" with only seeing his wife every now and then. IF they don't have kids realistically there's no reason to be with each other and he's hiding something from you. Why do they cheat? They want it all, they have problems in their marriage but like the security of it. They want that extra spark they feel in their marriage have faded, in the end the "other" will be the only ones hurt, at the end of the day they still have to put on that happy face and act like noting happened, as for you, it will all show.

The same reason married women cheat I would assume. People give up to easy, lack of communication, busy schedules, the list goes on. Bottom line: communicate. This helps every problem within a marriage.

The frequency of sex went down real low so I considered cheating. Woukdn't have left my wife though. I didn't but I considered it because she can't have a monopoly on my sex life and not have sex. Turns out she had a medical problem that got sorted out.

I think they cheat because the love isn't there, or they don't have sex as often, or they miss the butterflies, the thrill, all that stuff. Couples be settled down

Different men, different reasons.

In his case it sounds like for a variety of reasons his marriage is not going well, and he has you in his life, and it's very easy/tempting to keep turning to you instead of dealing with (or coping with) his relationship.

Men cheat for a lot of different reasons. Some men merely want the conquest of another woman. Their cheating is nothing more than a notch in the bedpost. Some men are looking for a more fulfilling sex life. A woman that will do things sexually that his wife won't. Other men are looking for an emotional connection that is missing in their marriage. Some like the thrill of it. The danger of the other woman.

Really, the reasons a person cheats are as varied as the people involved.
