Why do girls & women either look away or stare at me as I walk by them?

As I walk around campus, girls and women (mid 30's and up so they obvious are back in school for another degree) I don't know do two things: look away or stare.

They'll look down at the ground, and almost bow their head. Some I've had to do a group project with wouldn't even look at me.

But some will stare and will drop things or walk into things.

Or when I'm standing or sitting at a fixed spot, girls will stare and if I turn in their direction they'll look away. I pretend not to notice but I can only keep my head turned away from them for so long.

I've looked in a mirror to see if there's something on my face, but nothing is there.

Girls and women I know are always friendly, smile, give me hugs, call out to me, will walk with me to various classes or the cafeteria...

but girls and women I don't know either look away or stare.

why?

maybe your extremely handsome and they like to stare... or get embarrassed when there caught staring and that's why they look away...

the staring can't be because I'm handsome, because I'm so not. by a little cute, but that's it.

just because you don't see yourself as handsome does not mean that others don't...and they probably look at the ground when they get near you because as I said before they are embarrassed and don't want to be caught staring...
