For the ladies: Does cologne ACTUALLY make a difference?

Question

I don't wear cologne because for some reason it makes me sneeze, even if it's just a small amount.  But I've noticed a lot of questions on here from guys asking girls which colognes they like best, and some of the answers are pretty shocking.  My question is:  Does cologne make THAT much of a difference?  Would you feel attracted to a guy who wouldn't normally rub you that way if he was wearing cologne you liked?  Can it mean the difference between yes or no?

Well. Lets examine the cologne itself. It is bomb. Me and my friend were talkin: she lives in a coed dorm, and every early mornin the hallways smell like a REAL GOOD male fragrance. We love it. So yes, females do love the smell of a guy fragrance- smells REALLLY GOOD. Let's examine the guy. I wouldn't mind if my guy didn't have a fragrance, but I think he probably should on a special occasion. Its not mandatory for the occasion, but it would be a  nice touch.  Lets examine both the cologne and the guy. Nice combination. Cologne gives a guy his identity. Be careful though, there are some colognes that are.irritating. Choose a good one. We'll notice it ALOT when you're someone special to us, we'll also notice it when we don't even know your name, but not as much as when you're someone special (aka someone you're dating/interested in). Smell is a very powerful sense. Second to "being nice" most women rated smell as the most attractive trait in a man. BUT - studies show that as a dominant male, you would attract more women if you went without cologne, simply because women would be drawn to your pheromones. Cologne can mask that.

I think as long as you don't stink, and you're really nice - you would have the same chances as a man wore good cologne.

Personally, I have favorite colognes - mostly because I associate them with the hotties that wore them. Not because I particularly like the smell itself.

YES! Sometimes haha. There are some guys who smell so wonderful that I find myself subconsciously leaning closer to him or hugging him for just a few seconds longer. Sometimes the first thing that attracts me to a guy is his smell. But I guess I would have to be attracted to him anyway, because when annoying or creepy guys smell good, it doesn't really affect me as much and doesn't make me automatically like them.

But concentrate more on smelling clean and fresh, and start out using very little of a cologne. If you get compliments, try a little more of it the next time.

Yeah cologne makes a difference.  It can't make a horrendous guy sexy, but it does help a lot.  One day, one of my friends (he is cute but I'd never looked at him that way) wore the sexiest cologne and it just made me want him so bad.  I don't know if it was 100% the cologne because that's never happened to me before but yeah.So guys should wear cologne.

I doubt the smell could make the average girl say yes when she originally thought no. It's just a nice touch.

not required, that's for sure, as long as you don't smell bad, it's fine. But I mean when I walk by a guy and he smells really good (not that I'm TRYING to smell him er anything but just like walking by himclosely er something, ya know) then it makes me turn and look at him er notice him. and it lets me know that they at least care a little bit bout the way they smell. unless they're using it to make up for not showering er something (YUCK!) but I can totally tell when guys do that. but ur fine w/o cologne anyways.

Some girls prefer it, I don't. As long as there isn't the need to aka there isn't any odour problem to mask with the cologne. There's way more better things to be attracted to other than cologne. My answer to your question: no it doesn't make a difference ;*)

Guys don't have to wear cologne, but girls do notice it. Honestly, I like where I sit in my history class because the guy behind me wears cologne. I couldn't tell you a thing about him besides that.

Cologne can make a guy more attractive, but I don't think it would change a girl's opinion of him--I would just like his cologne, not necessarily him.

It doesn't make a difference no, but he should at least smell clean. When in a relationship I do like it when he wears a nice cologne, it's got that little extra, like this strong manly smell that's easy to recognize (if you pick a more rare cologne). It's defs a turn on in such situations.

Yes for me it sometimes can. Someone I may not have found attractive before suddenly seems so much more masculine and sexy when I smell their cologne. It's weird really but it turns me on. And, if it's someone I already find attractive, the cologne just makes me go crazy for them haha plus I love smelling it on my clothes after a makeout session or something as a reminder.

i don't base attractiveness on smell, but if you smell nice, I will notice.

i think that a guy who smells clean- like soap/deodorant/laundry detergent- can smell better than a guy who wears cologne because its more subtle. cologne can be overpowering.

I think if a guy is wearing too much it is a turn off.  I personaly do not wear perfume.  I don't really care if he wears cologne.  It's not something I notice.

i like cologne, but it has to be something masculine and not overpowering, otherwise it just grosses me out. I hate it when guys practically bathe themselves in axe. ew.

and cologne won't make me suddenly like a guy that I didn't like already.

I believe that it can make a huge difference.  For me if a man smells good I give them extra points.  If most colognes make you sneeze you probably haven't found the right scent.  Its just a matter of finding the perfect scent that dose not aggravate you.  Scent is not everything but it dose make men more attractive in my opinion.

Oh yes! I find it does make a difference. Smelling good really does make people want to be around you more. Sometimes it's obvious that guys want you to notice because they try to walk past you a lot or 'accidently' bump into you, and I find it sweet :)

not really, too much cologne makes it seem like a guy is trying to cover up that he hasn't showered yet. taking showers everday and putting clean clothes and deoderant should be enough.

I don't care about cologne I think that it's pretty gross I mean don't you shower or something? Plus I think it smells like cheep perfume. But you know it depends on if the girl likes cologne or not but 4 me nah I don't even want cologne on a guy.
