What does 'See you sometime' mean?

Does that mean he wants to see me or not?

There's this guy I meet up with for coffee and just hanging out, at the end its always kinda weird. Well cos. the first time I went somewhere with him, it was his suggestion, to go to a cafe. Everytime we say goodnite, there are some variations of this line

"See you sometime."

The first time it was "See you sometime. I don't know when, but sometime"

once on the phone it was "See you soon" (even though we hadn't like set another date to meet)

I always thought 'See you sometime.' sounded so vague, that it was like trying to say I don't want to see you :S? He doesn't call me much, but we like talking to each other. He's quite busy, with work and hobbies, is that why there is the 'sometime' added? Am I overanalysing guys words or is there some significance to it?

You are overanalyzing it, us guys add words that don't mean a darn thing lol. Whenver I say bye to my friends I always say stuff like see you whenever or until later or w/e. We usually just say something to say it, instead of just saying bye we would like to say more but we usually don't have anything else to say so we just think of something random to add to it. Since bye is kind of like "mean" sounding or something. You shouldn't worry about it, if you guys have a good time together then there is no reason he wouldn't want to hang out with you again.

Lol you're so right. I'm always wondering why guys add superfluous words of info, but you've explained it to me now :DD thanks! Lol, I often just say something short like 'Ciao!' or 'Bye!' or 'See ya later!' . Actually when I say 'See ya sometime...!' he does notice I'm sort of saying it a bit wistfully and he said 'yeah, see you soon' :o. Yeah, I really like talking to him :) he's great! Thanks for your advice.

I think you might be reading into what he said. "See you sometime" is one of those phrases that we say automatically, like "take care," or "have a good one." He might say that to everyone when he says goodbye but doesn't expect to see them again at any specific time.

But yeah, one night I felt really bad because he said it something like 'See you... sometime. Don't know when, but sometime.' and then I'm like 'okay, cya! *smiles' . Yeah that's the part I have the problem with, the 'any specific time' I guess I miss him in a way, he's really fun to talk to :).
