Why are guys protective of their girl friends?

I was wondering why guys are so protective of their friends that are girls? One of my guy friends tends to be very protective of me. When it starts to get a little dark outside, sometimes he will walk me home so that I feel safe. If I get freaked out by some big guys walking by outside he'll say " It's OK, I'll protect you", and he'll make it seem like when I'm with him, I wouldn't get hurt or get hit by a car because he would either push me out of the way before I get hit, or stop me from going in front of a moving car if I was out of it, or something. Then, he'll make sure not to bring me anywhere with people he knows I would feel uncomfortable around.

So why is it that he's so protective of me? Why does he act as if when I'm with him, he'll always make sure that I am safe and he wouldn't let anything bad happen to me? Do you think he has a bit of feelings for me or is it just plain guy ego?

I would like to say that I do the same thing. I always offer to protect this girl that's my best friend. We've only been best friends for like 5 months and she's kinda being distant but I still always offer to help her out or something like walk her to her car or not hang around people that she's uncomfortable with. First of all I do like the girl, but I'd do that for any girl that's my friend. The Reason I'd protect them is because I'm a gentleman. Its not ego and its not my own self esteem. It's because I would rather take the hit or whatever happens, instead of the lady. The reason I would do that to be honest is because her friendship is a lot different then any guy's friendship I have, Besides like my friend that I consider my brother. I don't know there's more heart to her friendship but then again were are close friends. Or we were. That's why I'd do it, because her friendship means a lot and I wouldn't want anything to happen to her. Especially if I could prevent it by doing something. Hope that gives you another view of why he might do that.

I'd say there's definitely a chance he has feelings for you. Though I'd say reading your question there's also a chance you have feelings, even if not recognized, for him.

He's protective of you because he cares about you and wants to make sure you're safe, healthy, and happy. A big part of it is simply human nature to be protective about friends. No one wants to see someone they care about get hurt. Guys generally do it more with girls because most guys except other guys to take care of themselves, though they'd watch each other's back and make sure they weren't hit by a care. It's probably from all the information about women being attacked and being hurt you read in the news. So we want to make sure that won't happen to someone we know.

However, if this guy is wanting to protect you even when you don't see the need for protection or does it in a manner that's more than just, "I'll walk you home as a buddy walking next to you" then he does likely have feelings.

It's from how you said he makes you FEEL safe and protected, and that you're asking this question.You aren't annoyed by his actions or just accepting of them, you want to know why based on your feelings. I read into it something that triggered that idea.

i am like that to. I am protective with all my friends that are chicks. Guys just don't want to see there friends/gf scared or harmed.

Ps he might like you. guys tend to get more protective when we are going out with someone.

I would say he has feelings for you. And, by the way, that's what a gentleman does; protect his girl!

Um its not guy ego its basically saying he loves you and cherishes your presence and doesn't want anything bad to happen to you while your with him.
