Usually the difference lies totally in how YOU respond. If I flirt in a friendly way, but a woman responds seriously, then I know I can get serious too. If the woman laughs it off or gets offended, I know to back off or at least not insist on following up.
So it's up to YOU, largely, to make the difference!

So what you're saying is that it's up to us if we get "serious"?. What if the guy flirts with every girl?
Well, most guys WILL flirt with most girls, no? Yes, it's in part up to you if it gets serious....
By responding in a serious way, I mean you show some emotion and don't just laugh it off...you take me seriously. You ask me, for example, what I mean!!!!

I am stuck here also... I would appreciate more guys to share your thoughts on this. He flirts, I flirt back. Since we work in the same office, we IM each other the whole day everyday. I thought this is just flirting at work, but he will texts me on weekends and end up we are texting each other throught out the weekends. Repeat cycle. But he keeps saying to everyone, to me, "we're friends." Go figure... ? I really can't.
